At 22 and 25 years old, Brandi and Max technically could be my children.

At One Yoga on Sunday, the young Yogis offered the community an introduction to the Sutras and as I crossed the threshold into the studio;

I felt I had entered into a sacred space as I inhaled traditional Indian incense and the only sound was this OM CHANTING MEDITATION:

What I thought were a few lyrics from my youth:

You, who are on the road must have a code that you can live by…And so become yourself because the past is just a good bye. Teach your parents well…And feed them on your dreams…

I already understood that Yoga is about ease and comfort in movement; what Brandi and Max modeled was comfort in stillness and they illuminated the science of Yoga by referring our class to this YouTube made possible by NASA of the Voyager’s recording from Jupiter:

Brandi and Max explained that “OM” is not a word but a State of Being and yogis chant it today because for thousands of years yogis have!

Brandi and Max explained our “entire body is vibration; everything is vibration” and they dissected OM into three separate sounds and we chanted:

Ahhhhhhhh  Oooooooo Mmmmmmmm

Max explained the sounds as if we were getting into a hot tub and our first reaction from the heat would be “Ahhhhhhhh”

As we sunk deeper into the hot water we would react with a “Oooooooooooo”

And as we settled into the heat we would express “Mmmmmm”

Brandi explained that there are nearly 200 Sutras and sutra means the bare minimum thread of meaning and a teacher expounds on it by adding his/her own understanding...

A few days prior, Brandi shared a poem she wrote inspired by a conversation with a friend about ANGER and breaking a three day fast with a cup of espresso.

Round and Round By Brandi King

Round and round, in circles we turn.

So much to see; so much to learn!

Obstacles reveal our opportunities;

They allow us to begin a playful scrutiny.

Which route to go?
Only the Divine really knows.

Tune in, stay "here," watch the cosmic show.
Just an observer in the maya (illusion) that surrounds.

Watch the light, feel the dark (matter/density), hear the sounds!

Experience the moment as blissfully as you can:

Dance with Shiva (the power of transformation/destruction of ego)!

Lose the plan.

 Just find your flow in the ocean of give and take.
Smile a little: give yourself that needed break.

Surrender to God, make life your devotion.
Find yourself truly immersed in the Universal potion:

You are consciousness!
You are bliss!
You are everything; there is nothing you miss.

Fear's duty is to pull you away (from the present).
How strong is your will?
Do you love yourself enough to stay?

Gently guide yourself Home, as you would an animal gone astray.

Know the Truth: Spirit is the only way.

Round and round, in cycles we spin.

Can we pull ourselves back together again?

Accusing "other" of perceived "wrongs."
All the while, losing the chance to sing our love song.

Emotions left unexpressed
Create "dis-ease," leaving heart and mind in a state of unrest.

Let them go sans reaction, communicate with compassion; leave nothing in the body to create held stress.

Feel the freedom; feel the love!

May your heart shine like the heavenly stars above.
In times of holding and weakness, we attack those that surround.

Be gentle with yourself and others;
Listen intently, what is there to be found?

Rejecting the format (words/expressions) of our (and others') fragile emotions,

We lose our Truth, our utmost notion:

The reality that I am you and you are me.

Only love and acceptance allows us to be!

Perfection and connection is true understanding.
Animosity is separation: a bumpy landing.

When anger towards another takes control, set the ego aside:

Take a deep, calm breath; tame the unsettled mind.

If the door cracks open (anger pours out), the trapped beast is likely to rage.
Close the door, put a lock on the cage.
Break the habit: pull the root of the pain to unveil innate peace.

Peace is the way to peace, not a vengeful release.

Transform this anger into positive energy,

Scrub your floors, write a dramatic symphony.

Anger can be a call to access your will,

To harbor the power for those life tasks you wish to fulfill.
Let anger filter through love as you honor varying opinions;
For truly anything is possible in God's dominion.

So don't just believe me, look inside yourself.

What rings True for you in this life you've been dealt?

Maybe for you, it's best to express:

Do so mindfully, cut to the core, how might this imbalance be healthfully addressed?

Your perception filters your world.

Which way might yours begin to unfurl?

Round and round, where might we twirl?
Can we create heaven on Earth and give that idea a whirl?

Om shanti

Namaste- Brandi King

That afternoon when I returned home I learned the BREAKING News from Jerusalem which ‘normally’ would have ANGERED me to distraction; instead I reacted with a few deep centering breathes and within two hours broke the news to America:

Israel Continues Torturing Whistle Blower Mordechai Vanunu

I end with this poem I wrote 9 years ago:

The more I learn, of less I am certain,
except for the need to remain open
to the Mystery we call God;
Creator of unfathomable diversity
Artist of intricate details
 who crafted verdant mountains where fragile flowers dwell

Who designed the ocean depths
and no human eyes have yet to read their deepest tales.

So it is with us;
unknown realities within
 The Divine indwells;

Thirstily seeking us as we search hungrily for what we desire to possess:

Peace of mind and life to the full.

So many voices in the world striving to convince, when all that really matters is the peace that can be within;

Begins with Detachment from outcome:

Just do your best!

When one lets go of the need to control and to self-defend

When one has a heart for the poor and oppressed

When one seeks and sees The Divine within all creatures and events
When one trusts The Holy is in control-although the daily news denies it.

When one accepts The Other has a plan and desires to find it.

When one comes to understand The Eternal Mystery is more than any concept

And welcomes the diversity of men rather than deny them.

When one accepts we will not stand on any accomplishment;

But on our motives and the love that drives it.

When one is aware that evil as well as good cut through every human heart

And learns to make friends with silence

The Light is ever present to guide us.

Silent time in nature is as necessary as bread

Prayer is poetry and service her manifestation.

To forgive is divine and necessary to be divinely forgiven.

And therein lies the peace that passes all understanding.

And every drop of dew are but tears from heaven,

Shed each day a new,

For me, for you

For what we did and did not do

To help bring in The Kingdom.

And the Kingdom comes from above and it comes from within.

IMAGINE a kingdom of sisterhood of all nations and all men.

I do.

I also believe that education is the way to compassion, and compassion the way to change.
